PARKS & RECREATION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The City of Paso Robles is always in need of volunteers to do everything from clerical tasks and coaching to assisting with special events and Advisory Committees. Without volunteers, the City wouldn’t be able to offer the quality or quantity of services it is able to. Volunteers are vital to our organization. Be part of it!

The Parks and Recreation Division of Library and Recreation Services have need for volunteers in the following areas:

Youth sports - We utilize coaches and scorekeepers for T-ball and Coach Pitch as well as Youth Basketball. For more information contact Chad Dawson (e-mail) or by phone at 237-3990.

Barney Schwartz Park - We have a team of volunteers assisting with park events, from Senior Days to league activities, to big events like the 4th of July Celebration. Chad Dawson at 237-3990 is in charge of BSP activities, and Freda Berman 237-4134 (e-mail) is in charge of volunteers.

Pools - Volunteer Aides work alongside Water Safety Swim Instructors during the summer to help with swim lessons. Must be able to commit to a two week swim session. Free open and lap swim is provided for all Volunteer Aides for the summer season and a T-shirt.

After-school programs - The YMCA has two after school programs as well as summer programs and camps. They are always looking for guest speakers and mentors. Call Shelly Dargatz at 237-0845.

Advisory Committees – All advisory committees consist of volunteer members.  The Parks and Recreation, Youth Commission, and Senior Advisory committees are appointed by the City Council.  For positions available information and downloadable application, visit the Current Openings page.

REC Inc. - The fundraising arm of parks and recreation is also a volunteer group. If interested in joining REC Inc, please call Judy O’Neal 237-3992 for the next available meeting date or visit the REC Inc. page for more information..

Senior Center – The senior center utilizes a volunteers as receptionists, nutrition servers and driver, events assistance, hostesses, and on a variety of committees. For more information on senior volunteers, please call the Senior Center at 237-3880.

Centennial Park – Volunteers may be assist staff in clerical duties, gym attendants, and indoor soccer leagues. Volunteer applications are available at Centennial Park at the registration desk. For further information, please call 237-3988.

Special Events – The recreation division utilizes volunteers in a variety of special events such as the summer concert series, 4th of July, Kite Fest, Midnight Movies, Skate Fest, and lots more! Volunteer applications are available at Centennial Park at the registration desk. For further information, please call 237-3988.

Middle School Dances – Chaperones are always needed for middle school dances held at Centennial Park. Call Vicky Jeffcoach 237-6595 for more information.

Please note: All volunteers who work in positions of authority over minor children must be fingerprinted as required by law. The fingerprinting is done at the Public Safety Center for free for all volunteers. An appointment is required. Fingerprint forms are available at Centennial Park at the registration desk.
