Beautification Award for Sherwood Forest
The City of Paso Robles and the REC Foundation were the
recipients of the Chamber of Commerce Beautification Award in
August 2007 for their work on the Sherwood Forest Park. The
centerpiece of the park is the undoubtedly the “fire-breathing”
dragon, pictured above, who guards over the park.
The City of Paso Robles and the REC Foundation
invited the public to celebrate the Grand Opening Ceremony for
the long awaited Sherwood Forest Playground Project on Friday,
February 9, 2007.
This project represents Phase IA of the Sherwood Park Master Plan, which was completed in 2003 with community input during a series of design workshops. The playground environment embodies a medieval theme in the design complete with a mist breathing dragon, castle ruins with moat and two playground areas.
The Sherwood Forest Playground Project was originally started by the REC Foundation (formerly known as REC Inc) in 2000, by identifying that the City needed to replace outdated play equipment in Sherwood Park.

This fundraising non-profit dedicated to enhancing parks and recreation in Paso Robles challenged the City to take on the project by donating the first $15,000 and asking for the City Council to match it. The Council took up the challenge and did so, later adding Park Development Funds in addition to Propositions 12 and 40 Per Capita grant funding. The City then awarded the construction contract to Newton Construction. Construction began on the project May 11, 2006.

For Sherwood and Centennial
Sherwood Park is located on the east side of town and is used mostly for youth sports. The Little League field was completely redone in April of 2002. Visit the Public Works Parks Maintenance page for details and photos of the project.
In addition to the renovated Little League Field, Sherwood Park has one basketball court; horseshoe pits, restrooms, a sand volleyball court, one regulation size soccer field, two small soccer fields and a softball field with bleachers. Also at the park are four tennis courts. Click here for Tennis Court Schedules.
Three small group barbeques are available for public use. The
large, covered group barbeque area must be reserved. Download and fill
out the Facility Use Form and either
mail or bring it in to Centennial Park, along with a check for the appropriate amount
