The wind and sunshine was a perfect combination for
hundreds of families who turned out for the City’s Sixth Annual
Kite Fest on April 19. The sky above Barney Schwartz
Park was dotted with countless kites of all shapes, sizes and
colors.
The event featured a number of kid and family-friendly activities including free kite kits for kids to decorate and fly; face painting; and, most anticipated, the candy drop. Prior to the candy drop, the “Singing Hands Choir” performed a number of songs in Sign Language with the finale featuring the popular kite anthem, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.”
Following the performance, a massive kite was loaded with 30 pounds of candy. After the kite had successfully ascended, with the pull of a cord, candy was dropped onto the field for children to collect. . . a piñata in the sky! Impressive large kites rose and fell with the wind and nationally ranked kite fliers performed their magic with kite dance synchronized to music. A beautiful display of talent, precision, and wonder graced the skies. Click on the images below to enlarge:
