TREATMENT

The Treatment Plant Process:
The current treatment plant process consists of physical treatment, primary treatment, trickling filters, secondary clarifiers, chlorination for disinfection and polishing ponds. Then river discharge to the Salinas River. The following links describe each process:
Physical Treatment | Primary Treatment | Trickling Filters
Secondary Clarifiers | Bio Solids | Disinfection
Future Plant Up-grades
In the near future the Wastewater Plant will be going through an upgrade to add several different processes in order to better clean the waste stream of all ammonia. More stringent discharge requirements by the State will also require the City to remove nitrates as well as phosphorus and other constituents before discharge. These processes will also give the Plant the ability to reach Title 22 (California Health Laws Related to Recycled Water) requirements.
Plant Staffing
Staffing for the Plant currently consists of 4 operators with State required Certifications ranging from Operator I to Operator III. Operators take care of operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical, telemetry, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), recordkeeping, laboratory analysis and landscape maintenance. Staff currently work five days a week with a standby operator covering the weekends.
