OVERVIEW OF MAINTENANCE DIVISION

Welcome to the Maintenance Services Divisions of Public Works. The name “Services” is key to our operation. We endeavor to provide excellent service to our customers whether they are members of the community, visitors or co-workers. Our influence extends over several distinct areas of our City.

Our Streets Maintenance Division keeps busy removing graffiti, trimming street trees (City-owned), repairing and maintaining pavement surfaces, sidewalks, street marking and street signs. Safe travel, whether vehicular or pedestrian, is the goal of this division.

Our Fleet Maintenance Division works hard to keep the City’s rolling stock (including everything from lawn mowers, police cars and the vehicles the inspectors and public works staff drive to the fire engines, transit buses and heavy equipment like backhoes), in excellent working order with a minimum of down time. This internal support function is a critical element required for the smooth functioning of the City departments and the ability of those departments to deliver their service.

Our Building Maintenance Division is responsible for the care and upkeep of all the City’s buildings. This division’s goal is to provide a pleasant and functional environment for the inhabitants of the building—whether they be residents, visitors or staff.

Last but not least, our Parks Maintenance Division is responsible for creating a beautiful and functional environment for the enjoyment of a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Whether active (soccer, softball, tennis) or passive (picnicking, walking) customer enjoyment of our “green spaces” is the goal of Parks division.
